EXECUTIVE PA TRAINING
PAs ARE GETTING A RAW DEAL IN LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT Did you know that a survey of CEOs conducted in 2009 by the Association of Personal Assistants in conjunction with Monster, TotalJobs and Reed.co.uk found that a number of executives were attributing over 40% of their productivity to their PA? This 40% included an understanding of international business and social etiquette in countries like China. The survey demonstrates the productive effectiveness created by the synergy between the boss and his or her PA. ARE PAs GETTING THE KIND OF SPECIALISED TRAINING THEY DESERVE? Considering this staggering return on investment a good PA represents for the business, it’s surprising how many senior managers take the view that PA training is not a priority. Like any other professional, PAs need to maintain their relevance and effectiveness in their role. This means staying ahead of the game, keeping up with the latest proven practices in their profession, finding ways to add value to their role, and cultivating knowledge of business practices around the world. PA specialist training is required, but PAs often have to make do with internal, piecemeal training solutions year-in, year-out, such as How to Conduct Effective Meetings or Report Writing Skills. These internal courses should be welcomed additions to specialist training courses available to PAs. It’s a fact that many PAs are getting less than they ought to in the area of continuous professional development. PAs feel frustrated, and it can even be the case that those that want to make an impact often won’t bother to request PA training. They are convinced that their boss will turn down their request due to no provision in the budget, or because their boss thinks they are adequately trained. This is short-term thinking, as business is now conducted in a global setting. PAs simply need to know how to deal with VIPs from countries like China. And taking a long-term view, that is still an excellent return on investment, because the benefits from training are ongoing, and most PAs earn significantly less than 20% of their boss’s salary. HOW DOES SPECIALISED PA TRAINING BENEFIT ORGANISATIONS? Attending any of the following courses will bring PAs up-to-date with the latest proven practices. In addition to this PAs will understand how to raise their game as Personal Assistants and how to provide the best possible personal assistance to their bosses.
