Symptoms Of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

The symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome build up slowly, eventually reaching a point where they are impossible to ignore. Personal Assistants are prime candidates for this type of condition due to constant keyboard use and fast typing, so it's important to known the symptons and seek medical advice sooner rather than later.

A large number of people all over the world suffer from this condition and a significant number of compensation claims for work-related injuries and illnesses are attributed to carpal tunnel syndrome. There are a number of symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome, such as a tingling sensation in the fingers and hands. It's the same sort of feeling you get if your hand has fallen asleep because you've been lying on it and cut off the circulation.

Another symptom is a burning sensation in your finger tips and difficulty picking up objects; gripping objects like pens and pencils will be painful. Shooting pains that travel the full length of your arm are symptoms of more advanced carpal tunnel syndrome damage - at this stage the pain may be severe. Unfortunately, many people wait until this stage before seeking medical help.

If you find yourself experiencing any of the symptoms above you should seek the advice of an experienced medical practitioner at the earliest opportunity. Why? Because if you catch this condition at an early enough stage, it is possible to reverse the symptoms.

The corrective measures will be a combination of advice on correcting the way you use your hands and wrists, plus an exercise routine, and the use of wrist braces. A wrist brace keeps the wrists straight while typing. If the condition is caught early enough the above measures could make surgery unnecessary.

If carpal tunnel syndrome is affecting you, request an urgent workstation assessment. Perhaps a special ergonomic chair would ease the symptoms, along with an appropriate wrist rest and special keyboard.

The important thing is to seek early medical advice - don't suffer in silence. Early diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome could mean the difference between curing the problem and suffering permanent disability.
