Interview Clothes for a Successful Interview
Wearing the right interview clothes is crucial to making the right first impression. To make sure you get it right consider the type of business you are dealing with. For example, if you are attending an interview at a bank, your interview clothes should be smart and formal. Whereas, if you are attending an interview at a fashion house, you would be expected to wear something fashionable. Whatever you wear, make sure it's relevant to your geographic location. The trendy and extreme styles worn in New York may not be relevant for your home town. Getting your attire right is an important step towards boosting your confidence.
See below for more tips to help you dress for the occasion.
- Avoid wear vividly coloured nail polish, and pay attention to your nails, make sure they are neatly filed.
- Never wear jewelry that rattles and jiggles as you speak and move. Try not to wear two or more earrings. Piercing aside from the ears is a no no.
- Get a professional looking hairstyle - this goes a long way to making you look the part.
- Wear closed shoes. Heels are appropriate but not killer heels, as they could give the impression that you won't be able to move around quickly to execute the company's business.
- Unless you have beautifully tanned legs, wear natural looking stockings, regardless of the temperature.
- Invest in a good suit or outfit - it's worth spending extra cash on a suit that makes an immediate statement about you.
- Avoid short skirts, leggings and tight clothing.
- Use perfume sparingly. Try spraying a small mist into the air and then walk into it.
- Use a smart leather bag that matches the colour of your shoes. Use a structured looking bag as opposed to a floppy one. Avoid oversized bags.
- If you wear contact lenses, it might be worth investing in some smartly framed glasses, as this could enhance your image as a business professional.
