What VA Certification?

VACertifications.com runs the VA certification system for VAs seeking to obtain the PVA’s (Professional Virtual Assistant), and MVA’s (Master Virtual Assistant) qualifications.

VA certification is concerned with certification, as opposed to training. The aim of this certification process is to certify that you already have the necessary skills and attributes for the certificate you have applied for.

A PVA or MVA certification logo prominently displayed on a Virtual Assistant’s website signifies the highest level of skills, ethics and personal conduct in business practices.

PVA certificaton implies a skilled Virtual Assistant with significant industry experience. MVA certification shows that a VA has diverse experience of projects and tasks and has completed a high level of study.

The VA Certification organisation was set up in response to a rapidly growing industry. It differentiates between marginal skills and higher-level skills, and provides an independent means to measure competence in the industry.

As the most independent organisation in the VA industry, VACertification maintains its credibility because membership of the organisation is not a pre-requisite for gaining certification. Other industry certifications are usually restricted to graduates of their own training programmes, or members of their own organisation. Most of these organisations do not make allowances for experience or education.

VA Certification is made up of three industry leaders: International Association of Virtual Office Assistants (IAVOA), Virtual Assistance U (VAU) and AVirtualSolution (AVS).

Candidates applying for VA Certification do not sit an exam. Assessment and screening is conducted by other MVA’s and is based on: experience in the business world; experience in the virtual assistance field; formal education; specialist certification, and training.

A formula is used to rate candidates. To be awarded a PVA designation you must earn 300 points. Your training and education could account for as much as 200 of those points, with a minimum of 100 points awarded for VA and other experience. MVA’s have to earn at least 400 points, 200 of which are credited for experience.

MVA’s are required to self-regulate and assist in policing the VA industries. They are expected to protect the interests of their clients and maintain the highest level of ethics and confidentiality. MVA's are also expected to assist other VA’s by helping them to grow professionally.

If you would like to work towards certification as an PVA or MVA, you will need to perfect your skills in the following areas:

- corporate protocol and supporting executives
- crisis management
- project management
- decision making
- multi-tasking
- business English, business law, ethics and intellectual property
- IT and office practices
- advanced knowledge of your chosen niche
- customer service techniques

The International Virtual Assistant Association (IVAA)
is another major organisation in the industry. It issues the CVA (Certified Virtual Assistant), an exam-based certificate. And AssistU offers two levels of certification: Certified Professional Virtual Assistant (CPVA), or Certified Master Virtual Assistant (CMVA).
