ARE YOU STRUGGLING TO CONVINCE YOUR BOSS THAT YOU ARE WORTH THE INVESTMENT IN PA TRAINING?
PAs ARE GETTING A RAW DEAL IN LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
A survey of CEOs conducted in 2009 by the Association of Personal Assistants in conjunction with Monster, TotalJobs and Reed.co.uk found that a significant number of executives attribute over 40% of their productivity to their PA? The survey demonstrates the productive effectiveness created by the synergy between boss and PA.
ARE PAs GETTING THE KIND OF SPECIALISED TRAINING THEY DESERVE?
The simple answer is 'No'. Considering the staggering return on investment a good PA represents for the business, it is surprising how many senior managers take the view that PA training is not a priority. Like any other professional, PAs need to maintain relevance and effectiveness in their role. This means staying ahead of the game, keeping up with the latest best practice in their profession, finding ways to add value to their role and cultivating knowledge of business practices around the world.
PA specialist training is a necessity but PAs often have to make do with internal training courses year-in, year-out, such as 'How to Conduct Effective Meetings' and 'Report Writing Skills'. These courses are welcomed additions to specialist training courses for PAs but should not replace them.
It is a fact that many PAs are getting less than they ought to in the area of continuous professional development. PAs can feel frustrated with this obstacle to development and often won’t bother to request PA training because they are convinced their boss won't sign off their request. Common reasons for denying training include 'you are adequately trained' and 'no provision in the budget'.
This is short-term thinking. As an executive, you would not hesitate to continuously develop your Accountant. Your PA packs your parachute everyday so training is a win-win strategy and a good return on investment. Many PAs earn less than 25% of their boss’s salary.
HOW DOES SPECIALISED PA TRAINING BENEFIT ORGANISATIONS?
Attending any of the following courses will bring PAs in line with the latest PA best practice and show PAs how to raise their boss's productivity and improve their own personal brand.
